Educational Guide
Roncalli is pleased to announce the implementation of the Academy Program, beginning in the 2011- 2012 school year.  Academy is an innovative program which will allow students in all grades to learn and practice 21st Century Skills.  Each grade will explore different themes and  each year will build on what was learned previously.  Students will keep a digital portfolio throughout the 4 years of Academy to record progress and accomplishments and ultimately to demonstrate proficiency in the skills and knowledge covered. Students who begin the program as freshmen should be able to demonstrate/document proficiency in all of the exit outcomes by the end of their senior year.  Students will receive ¼  elective credit per year for Academy for a total of 1 credit after 4 years.  Awarding of the credit will be based on participation and the student’s digital portfolio.  Academy will be held on the second and third Tuesday of each month.  On those days, classes will be shortened slightly to allow for a 1 hour academy block.  In this way, no regular classes will be missed.
Grade level teams will plan and execute academies around central themes.  Academies may meet in small groups, or as an entire grade, depending upon the activity planned.  Outside speakers and resources will be utilized to supplement the team members’ expertise.
